It can be difficult for drivers to estimate whether a parking space is big enough for safe parking. Parking space measure-
ment measures the length of a parking space while driving past and informs the driver using a three-level system of symbols: Red means the space is too small, yellow is a tight squeeze, and green is a suitable space. You can prevent long, unsuccessful parking attempts, saving you time and stress. You can also concentrate on the traffic ahead and reduce disturbance to the vehicles behind you, which means additional safety.

Ultrasound measures space
Parking space measurement is an extension of the well known parking assistant and uses an ultrasound sensor attached to the side of the front bumper to detect potential parking spaces. The system compares the measured value with the vehicle's length and decides whether it is possible to park there safely.

Bosch does your parking
In the near future, once a suitable parking space has been found, the intelligent parking assistant will be able to handle the parking for you. As soon as the driver has activated the function, the system calculates the ideal steering angle to park the car safely, based on the position of the vehicle in relation to the existing space between any parked cars, trees, bushes or other obstacles. The car is automatically steered in the chosen direction. All you have to do is operate the gas pedal and brake. Naturally, the parking assistant , which is automatically activated during your parking maneuver, reliably informs you on the remaining distance to the obstacle. Parallel parking becomes child's play. You can sit back, relax and enjoy the parking process. The risk of parking damage is also significantly reduced. That saves stress and is easy
on your wallet.

Premiere in the Citroën C4 Picasso
Bosch is working on a step-by-step extension of parking assistants as we know them today. From now on, parking space measurement is available to car manufacturers for serial production. The innovation celebrated its world premiere in the new CITROËN C4 Picasso, which was presented to the public at the Paris Auto Salon.
